I am excited about a summer project the Lord is putting on my heart, and I want you to be a part of it! Let me explain.

Have you ever heard the term “life verse”?  You may have never heard this term, or you may have a life verse yourself. A life verse is one verse or short passage from the Bible that resonates with you in a deep way. It brings encouragement and focus. The verse sustains you when you are weary.  It is similar to a mission statement that shapes your life and guides your decisions.

A life verse is personal. To discover your life verse, begin with prayerful reflection. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you your verse. Your spirit is unique. So are your circumstances. Your verse will fit you. It will resonate with you.  As you read the Bible, the Lord will “highlight” a verse or short passage to you. Underline it. Write it out. Pray about it. If this is your life verse, the Lord will confirm your verse to you.

Is this Biblical? Yes and no. No, because there is no place in the Bible where we are commanded to have a life verse. Yes, because it pleases the Lord when we cherish His word and put it into our lives.

Does your life verse ever change over the years?  It can. Mine has several times.

Early in my walk with the Lord, my life verse was:
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him, and will dine with him, and he with Me.” — Revelation 3:20 This verse was important to me because it illustrates the way to begin a relationship with the Lord, opening the door of your heart, and then it pictures the fellowship we enjoy with the Lord, dining with Him.

Later on, this was my life verse:
“Yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary.” — Isaiah 40:31 This verse was important to me at that time in my life because I was so ready to run with the Lord, but there were things deep within me that the Lord needed to accomplish first.  I felt like every other word in the Bible was “wait.”  That season of my life was a waiting season.

The next season my life verse was:
“I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit; for apart from Me you can do nothing.” — John 15:5 It’s pretty self-explanatory.  My season was learning to abide and keep on abiding with the hope of bearing fruit.

More recently my life verse has been:
“One generation shall praise Thy works to another, and shall declare Thy mighty acts. On the glorious splendor of Thy majesty and on Thy wonderful works, I will meditate.” — Psalm 145:4-5 Again, this is fairly self-explanatory.  This season is a time of focusing on the next generation, especially upon their spiritual welfare.  I am also more drawn to meditating on God’s majesty and His word.
So that’s my story through my life verses, what is yours?

I want to challenge you to dig into the Scripture and discover your life verse for this season of your life. Then I want you to share it with me, along with a few words about your story of why this verse has special meaning for you.

I hope to put together a collection of our life verses and create the Life Verses Project this summer. This project will focus on our life verses and how they are connected to our stories. I also hope to do Lectio Divinas with many of our life verses over the summer, so we can meditate on His word through our life verses together.

Over and over in the New Testament, we are told to build up one another. Sharing your verse and story is a tangible way to build others up! We will be encouraged to see how the Lord speaks personally into our lives.  Our spirits will be deeply touched when we see how our creator God cares so individually for His people. Sharing your life verse will bear fruit for His kingdom.
It doesn’t have to be long, polished, or anything fancy. Just take a moment to reflect on the verse that’s meant the most to you, and tell me why it’s made such an impact.

I’ve made it super simple to join in! All you need to do is click the link below, fill out the form, and share your verse and story. You can even choose to stay anonymous if that feels more comfortable.

Your story matters more than you know. By sharing, you’ll encourage others in ways you might not even imagine. Together, we’re creating something that will remind us how God is constantly at work in our lives, weaving grace and love into each moment.

Thank you so much for considering being a part of this. It means so much to me, and I can’t wait to read about your life verse and the unique story behind it.

In His Love,
Kathy Phillips
