Jehovah Shalom

Kathy Phillips

When you hear the word "peace," what images come to your mind? Perhaps it's the absence of war, a serene sense of calm, or the tranquility of a quiet moment. While our English word "peace" hints at these feelings, it falls short of capturing the profound depth of its Hebrew counterpart, "Shalom."

According to Vine’s Expository Dictionary, shalom encompasses far more than we might initially think. It signifies completeness, safety, soundness, welfare, health, prosperity, quiet, tranquility, contentment, and friendship with others and with God, as well as the absence of war. Indeed, this concept is richly layered, offering a vision of wholeness, wellness, and unity—a truly all-encompassing state of being.

I invite you to explore this beautiful and multidimensional idea of peace through our latest devotional on Jehovah Shalom. May it inspire you to seek and embrace the profound wholeness and harmony that only God can provide.
